A monumental late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement ebonised bank of sixteen drawers, dating to circa 1880.

Of exceptional scale, the cabinet is arranged as two banks of eight graduated drawers beneath a boldly gadrooned cornice, the whole standing on a substantial plinth base. Each drawer retains its decorative rosette pull and is hand-cut dovetailed, with original workshop numbering still visible, reflecting traditional cabinet-making techniques of the period.

The restrained architectural form, combined with its ebonised finish and distinctive gadrooned moulding, is characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement of the late Victorian period. The beautifully aged surface displays the expected wear, rubbing and minor imperfections associated with over a century of use, contributing to its authentic character and patina.

An impressive and highly practical piece, equally suited as a statement chest, collectors’ cabinet or interior focal point.

Condition

Presented in good antique condition, with age-related wear, marks and minor losses to the ebonised finish consistent with age and use. The drawers run well and retain their original workshop numbering.
