A striking group of sculptural fragments taken from the celebrated Capitoline Hercules, comprising a hand, foot, head, leg and bicep, each cast in plaster and arranged as a cohesive study of the classical male form.
After the antique marble, itself a Roman copy of a Greek original attributed to Lysippos, the Capitoline Hercules has long been one of the most recognisable and reproduced sculptures of antiquity. Fragmentary casts such as these were traditionally used within academies and studios as teaching aids, allowing artists to study anatomy, proportion and surface in isolation.
Presented together, the group forms a highly decorative vignette.
Head - 14cm excluding marble plinth
Leg - 23cm
