England, circa 1835–1850
A superb William IV period English leather library armchair, of generous proportions and excellent country house form, raised on turned and fluted front legs terminating in original brass caps and castors.
The frame is of good weight and quality, with boldly scrolled arms and splayed rear legs, typical of the period. The chair has a deep buttoned back and a broad, comfortable seat, giving a wonderfully enveloping sit.
The leather upholstery is original or early and has worn beautifully over time to a rich oxblood tone, with exceptional depth and variation in colour. The surface displays natural creasing, crackle and areas of wear, particularly across the seat, creating the sort of authentic patina so sought after in English country house interiors.

Structurally sound and ready for use. The leather is heavily timeworn, with surface cracking and areas of splitting to the seat consistent with age and use. This has been preserved as part of the chair’s character and appeal. Minor wear to the frame and castors as expected.
