Joan Brull i Vinyoles (1863–1912)- Portrait of a Young Spanish Woman

A beautifully atmospheric late 19th-century portrait by the Catalan painter Joan Brull i Vinyoles, capturing a young Spanish woman turning softly over her shoulder, wrapped in a dark embroidered shawl scattered with delicate floral colour.
Brull, associated with the Catalan Modernista movement in Barcelona, is particularly admired for his evocative and intimate portrayals of women. In the present work, the sitter is rendered with remarkable sensitivity, the gentle turn of the head, softened gaze, and finely modelled features lending the painting a quiet emotional depth and a strong sense of presence.
The composition is both restrained and striking: the richness of the dark shawl acting as a foil to the luminous flesh tones, punctuated by small, painterly touches of red and white within the floral decoration.
Signed lower left ‘Brull’.
