A rare and striking survivor of 1930s royal pageantry, this original British-made textile banner was almost certainly produced for the Coronation of King George VI in 1937, or possibly the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935.

Crafted from deep red linen or linen-cotton blend, the banner features bold white serif lettering spelling out the patriotic phrase “GOD SAVE THE KING”, screen-printed in large capitals for maximum visibility. A faint but clear “BRITISH MADE” stamp can be seen in the lower right corner, typical of banners produced for public display during royal celebrations of the interwar period.

These banners were prominently displayed on town halls, railway stations, shopfronts, and across British high streets, as communities adorned their streets. Surviving examples are few, and those in good condition like this are especially sought-after.
