18th-century Rome through the eyes of Piranesi (1720–1778), the master engraver, architect, and antiquarian behind the Views of Rome (Vedute di Roma).
His copperplate prints capture a city alive with contrasts; aristocrats strolling, women hanging laundry, and people watering livestock amidst ancient ruins. Piranesi’s work preserves a Rome now lost—many of the monuments he depicted have since disappeared. A visionary entrepreneur, he sold these prints individually and in multiple editions to Grand Tourists.
Six modern prints in frames.
